Can the Board compel my school district to take action?
No, responsibility for the 23 school districts in the county rests with their elected boards of trustees. (This question has come up in multiple forms.) Does the Superintendent work for the Board?
No, unlike school districts, the County Superintendent is elected and has a long list of their own responsibilities. However, the Superintendent provides support to the Board and works together with the Board to advocate for children, youth, educators, and public education.

No, they can't work for the County Office of Education or a school district in the county.
Do Board Members Get Paid?
Yes, they receive a stipend of $378 per month for attending all of the scheduled Board meetings that month. If they attend only one of two Board meetings, they would receive half of that amount. If they are sick, they can ask the Board to adopt a resolution authorizing their full payment that month. Board members may also opt to receive medical and dental benefits.
What is the Impact of the Actions in Washington on the Programs the Board Oversees?
The impact of immigration threats and actions have been traumatic for many families across the county and have impacted attendance and learning. While, the County Office of Education will not be impacted by federal funding cuts to education this year, proposed cuts to medicaid may have a serious impact on students and their families.
